Katie and I are already thinking ahead to where we take our trip to China. (Yea!) The big debate is: Should we or should we not take the kiddo's along with us? It may be the greatest family trip ever..... or it may be the biggest disaster ever. :)
Also, our debate may be a non-issue as the kids could all be in school and unable to go with us. Missing two weeks is generally frowned upon. I'd feel kinda bad if all my kids had to repeat a grade.
I welcome any of your thoughts...

I've already shared my thoughts with you. Do you have access to our China blog? You could go back and look at all the fun things we did while in China (Safari Park in Guangzhou, Amusement Park, Sightseeing in Beijing before picking up our son, etc.). I would definitely recommend taking the kids. Our daughter was only in Kindergarten, but we choose to take her out of school for two weeks as this was an experience of a lifetime. Maybe the teachers can send work with you to do while in China. Plus, you can access e-mail so teachers could send items to you while away too. Kids often miss weeks of school for the flu or other serious illness, so I think you could make it work for time in China too!
If any way possible, TAKE THEM! We took all four of our boys to Russia and had the most amazing experience EVER (even with all the extra challenges.) Our best friends took their boys to China when they adopted their little girl and had a wonderful time. We went too -- vicariously through all their photos and they got to do some pretty cool things. My friend said compared to going to Russia, their China trip was like a Senior Citizen tour.
The school work can be made up along the way and pretty quickly once home. Even though kids are in school for 7 hours a day, there is a lot of down/filler time.
My friend just got back from China with their second daughter, Laney Lu. For this trip they did take all three of their children. They did miss school, but for a good reason. I think you should!
I think you should take the kids if they are older. When we went our son was only 2 and would not have been able to make it through the waiting and not being fully in charge of our schedule. If we go back, I think we would take both kids.
I agree, taking the kids would be great. When we got our daughter, we did not take our son because he was barely 2 and at that age it would have been really hard, but I do think that having family with us would have been a blessing as we were very lonely and homesick. Two weeks is a long time in a very foreign culture. Two weeks of school can easily be made up for the trip of a lifetime, if teachers frown at you, just look the other way....
