Making Plans

OK - Let's get back to subject of adoption. (Oh yea! That is the purpose of this blog isn't it?)

Today was fun. We booked our flights. We're choosing to fly Delta this time. Delta has, by far, the most direct way to fly from Omaha to Moscow. We'll go Omaha to Atlanta to Moscow. Last time, we went Omaha to Chicago to Toronto to Moscow. We're hoping that the fewer connections will decrease our odds of loosing our luggage this time around. We'll see. At the very least, I'll be packing a smarter carry-on this time. (Like that'll be hard to do...)

Another change this time around is that we're going to stay in an apartment while in Moscow rather than a Hotel. As some of you may know, Moscow is the most expensive city in the world. Additionally, the end of April is a big travel time for them because of their Easter (using the Orthodox calendar) as well as May day (which is big for them). The result is that a suite at the Holiday Inn costs $545/night! Yes, that would be dollars, not rubles.

Therefore, we're opting for a "cheap" apartment at a mere $270/night. Practically a steal!

We flew Delta via Atlanta and thought it was great. I found the Altanta airport easy to navigate (you can walk or take the tram to the different terminals) and everything seemed to be "new" (= nice). Plus they have Qdoba in the food court - we don't have in San Diego - so I was in heaven!!! (Love the taco salads!)

Immigration on the way back took 10 minutes for us. (Try to get seats close to the front of the plane / go through immigration / get your bags / and THEN you do the paperwork for your little guy at this desk near/before (? I can't remember) customs. We were the first to get through and therefore it went pretty quick for us.)

WOW! You really can't afford NOT to at those prices. Yikes. That is almost double what we paid when we were there in April of last year.

I would make sure you have plenty of time in between your flights in Atlanta. We have done the mad dash no less than 4 times in the last year in that airport as a result of Delta.

We are staying in an apartment this time too. I hope it makes things more convenient. Good luck packing.

Can't wait to hear your review of the apartment...we're looking into that too - in the faraway future!

One tip on immigration...

The lady who was "managing" the line at JFK told us we had to go to the non-US citizen line because we had Nick with us.

Not the case, you can go through the Citizen's line, they will process you and Ryan, and then send you to the room where you hand over the sealed envelope.
